Sprinkler and traditional fire safety systems

Sprinklers are an automatic fire safety system that detect when a fire starts.  The sprinkler then triggers a fire alarm and extinguishes or contains the fire.

How does it work?

When a fire starts, the nearest located sprinkler bulb bursts due to the heat from the fire, pressurized water is then released from the water system. The bulb can be replaced by a mechanical fuse on some sprinklers and serves the same function, melting in the case of excessive heat.

The flow of water to the system triggers an audible and an electric alarm. A set of pumps drawing water from tanks is generally used to ensure the circulation and spray of water.

When is it used ?

Sprinklers are the most common automatic fire protection system and can be applied to many environments (retail spaces, offices, car parks etc).


Fire hoses

Fire hoses are an effective item of first action used in firefighting, whilst waiting for a more suitable extinguishing agent or the fire service to arrive.

How does it work ?

Fire hoses are big flexible pipes. Their water source comes from either a tank dedicated to fire protection, or directly from the city.

When is it used ?

The aim of fire hose installation is to allow for a quick intervention, before or in addition to other stronger protecting solutions. Indeed, with its length (20 or 30 meters) and its reach (3 meters of spray), fire hoses are not able to extinguish a fire of great height.

Deluge system

A deluge system is an automatic system of intensive sprinkling, for a fire that can quickly grow. This system is equipped with nozzles.

How does it work ?

An electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic detection releases the opening of a deluge valve. Using pressure from pumps, water is sent to the open valves of the system.

When is it used ?

Like the sprinklers, a deluge system can be applied to any type of environment, for example to protect external containers or internally in theatre halls.
